Born in Carmarthen, West Wales, Andrew started playing the Cornet at the age of 8 with the Crwbin Silver Band. He was a founder member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales and a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and the British Youth Wind Orchestra.


After leaving school, Andrew studied the Trumpet at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff under Thomas Procter and graduated with a Diploma in Music Performance, with Distinction. Since then, he has performed all over the world, in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Ireland, Norway, France, Canada and the United States.


Andrew has also made numerous Television and Radio broadcasts, as well as many commercial recordings and has appeared at some of the world’s top Concert venues, including:

• Royal Albert Hall
• Royal Festival Hall and Barbican (London)
• St. David’s Hall and Wales Millennium Centre (Cardiff)
• Grieghalle (Bergen)
• City Hall (Brisbane)
• De Doelen Hall (Rotterdam)

• Bridgewater Hall (Manchester)


Andrew has also performed alongside some distinguished musicians, such as Maurice Murphy (ex Principal Trumpet – London Symphony Orchestra), former Royal Harpist, Catrin Finch, Mezzo-Soprano Katherine Jenkins and the great Harmonica Virtuoso, Larry Adler.


For 15 years, Andrew was a member of the Tredegar Band, being involved in one of their most successful periods. During this time he appeared on numerous occasions at the National and British Open Championships, (where the Band were runners-up) and no less than 7 European Championships. A cherished moment of his banding career was performing the off-stage cornet part of Philip Wilby’s “New Jerusalem” at the Royal Albert Hall, London for the National Finals in 1992.


Andrew’s freelance work is extremely varied and at present, he is the Trumpet player for the Welsh Brass Trio and the Phil Dando Big Band. He also plays in various chamber ensembles and function bands and has vast experience of performing with pit orchestras for shows, as seen in the West End and on Broadway.


Orchestral work has included work with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh Sinfonia, Chamber Orchestra of Wales and National Sinfonia of Wales.


Andrew has also performed extensively as a soloist and has performed Bach’s “tour de force”, the Brandenburg Concerto No.2. In addition to this, he is regularly in demand as a soloist at both weddings and funerals.


In 2006, Andrew became a member of the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh and during that time, has performed for Royalty and high-ranking dignitaries, at venues all over the British Isles and abroad.


Since joining, he has deputised for the Bands of the Welsh Guards and Royal Logistic Corps.
